Black Legion and the Ezekarion

Main series: The Talon of Horus → Black Legion. Extinction depicts the Sons of Horus’ earlier collapse; Repairer of Ruin gives optional Fabius background to the theft of Horus’s body. The Wonderworker is optional between the two novels. A Flash of Silver Among the Corroded Ghosts follows Khayon in the First Black Crusade’s fourth year, not a third main-series novel. The early stories’ relative order supplies no exact years. Abaddon: Chosen of Chaos is a later character portrait with no secure campaign placement. M41 and post-Rift stories are not immediate continuations. In the Indomitus era, Manflayer is represented only by its late epilogue The King in the Grove, in which Abaddon’s forces find Fabius’s casket. This is a secondary connection to one episode of Fabius’s personal story, not the next main-series volume or a relocation of the whole novel from M37.

My reading

On dead Palis II, Khayon investigates a signal apparently coming from fallen Thousand Sons and finds instead an ambush by the Imperium's secretive psychic warriors, the Grey Knights. He defeats the squad, draws secrets out of an enemy mind and leaves alive a crippled Abel Sartas, who will hunt him for centuries afterwards. The episode shows Khayon's early meeting with a secret order and one concrete consequence of the First Black Crusade.
