Predator, Prey

Terra and the Emperor

In M32, this is the political side of the War of the Beast: the High Lords and Vangorich in books 1–3 → The Last Wall and Terra’s crisis (4–6) → Koorland’s authority, Vulkan and the founding of the Deathwatch (7–9) → conflict with the Ecclesiarchy (10–11) → Vangorich’s coup (12). Read all twelve novels in series order; the military events between political episodes are not skipped. In The Beheading, the coup is in 546.M32 and the later resolution is about a century afterward. Stories in other millennia are not immediate continuations of this war. In Indomitus, Auric Gods appears here for the context of earlier service, the Vexen Cage’s origin and the cult’s target—the Emperor. The main investigation is also accessible through the Custodes and cultists, not presented as a current campaign on Terra.
