Soul Drinkers

Three layers of one Chapter’s history: the distant prequel Daenyathos, six novels about Sarpedon, and the new Primaris line in the Era Indomitus. The original arc runs from Soul Drinker to Phalanx; on a first read, the novella is safer after the finale. The new line begins with Traitor by Deed, followed by The Phalangite Ascendancy. The shared map preserves chronology and legacy without making all nine works one compulsory sequence.

My reading

Sarpedon leads the Chapter to Entymion IV on the trail of Tellos, now fully given over to the service of Khorne. The Imperial Guard and the Crimson Fists are already at war on the planet, and the drukhari are trying to turn a Chaos revolt and both Adeptus Astartes forces to their own design. The Soul Drinkers deal with their former brother and wreck the xenos plan, but the world dies under Exterminatus regardless, and the first great act of the story ends in new losses and still deeper isolation.
