Continues Lazarus’s story after The Buried Beast: first the costly operation on Husk, then the Fifth Company’s mission on Reis. No exact interval between the short story and novel is established. The Doom of Droslin, translated by Lazarus, is an embedded story from the past. The Lion’s return is reported in the epilogue; the Primarch does not appear in person, and that news does not date the entire novel after The Lion: Son of the Forest.
